Thanks, Marvin! You are correct - especially in the early stage, few days follow the same routine. Still, there are some aspects worth which influence the day:
- Priorities can shift quickly. I sometimes had the situation that I mentioned one thing in the daily standup but ended up doing something else during the day which become more pressing. We also don't use Scrum as that would introduce too much overhead so we try to avoid having too many meetings.
- Initially, it was only me who did everything on the technical side. ALIgnment becomes more important when more people join the team, though.
- Speaking of alignment: we try to embrace an asynchronous culture which means we have to make sure that we are documenting findings, results and discussions (e.g. on Notion or on Linear).
- The transition from an individual contributor to a form of engineering manager is not to be underestimated. It can feel strange at times when I feel like you do not have so much time to actively code as I used to. But so far, I'm still able to find some time for it and I want to do this as long as I can :)
