Very interesting article! I also noticed that although “design elements” often (subjectively ) look better but sometimes, it’s better to be a little less beautiful but much more practical.
A good example is the debate around placeholders vs. labels for input elements in mobile & web apps: while (floating) placeholders usually look cleaner, labels are generally better received by users.
